Federal Minister of the Interior Dr. Thomas de Maizière and Chairman of the Executive Board of DLR Prof. Dr. Johann-Dietrich Wörner have met recently to discuss the use of remote sensing data in support of crisis situations, civil protection and police investigations.
The background of the talk is the on-going framework contract between BMI and DLR to make use of remote sensing data provided through the Center of Satellite based Crisis Information (ZKI). The ZKI was established in 2004 as a service of DLR’s German Remote Sensing Data Center (DFD) to transfer know how from research and development into practise. It provides a 24/7 service for the rapid provision, processing and analysis of satellite imagery during natural and environmental disasters, for humanitarian relief activities and civil security related issues.
