On 30 and 31 May 2002, the Structures and Materials division of NLR hosted an international symposium to mark the opening of the newly extended composites laboratory. Delegates remarked that the symposium ISCM 2002 lived up to their expectation, providing a good mix between general information and technical details. The positive feedback from the delegates was very rewarding and therefore it was decided to organise the ISCM as a biennial event with NLR and DLR Braunschweig acting as alternate hosts.
The recently founded Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology (ZLP) located in Stade, Germany, is building upon the DLR Braunschweig's institutes’ research portfolio consisting of materials research, design, technology and assembly. ZLP bridges the gap to industrial application in terms of technology and manufactiuring.
The 6th ISCM 2012 in Stade, in tradition of ISCM, aims to bring together international speakers, to present their work and views on the development and manufacturing of composite structures. Presentations will analyse emerging issues, and offer the opportunity to discuss the state of the art of the fabrication technology for near future aircraft development programmes.
Over the years the ISCM Symposium proved to be an excellent platform for inspiring discussions about technological issues. In order to follow this tradition highly informative presentations with focus on current composite manufacturing challenges and achievements will be selected.
Growing part sizes and reduced cycle times are some of the questions that will be addressed. together with material performance and quality assurance topics.
