Based on 2D finite element analysis an extension of the first order shear deformation theory has been developed and implemented into the software tool “TRAVEST” at the DLR to calculate the entire 3D stress tensor. TRAVEST is designed to work within the pre and post processing tool MSC.PATRAN. It requires an ordinary FE solution using quadratic 8 node quadrilateral or 6 node triangular elements. The intention is to extend the applicability to linear 3 node triangular und 4 node quadrilaterals, respectively. In particular, TRAVEST can be used for arbitrarily curved fibre reinforced shell structures.
Currently the development is focused on the extension of the applicability to linear 3 node triangular und 4 node quadrilaterals, respectively. Further investigations are performed to consider sandwich/double shell concepts and 3D fibre reinforced structures.
