Our research is focussed on:
- Fast and accurate design and simulation methods
- Innovative experimental methods
- Virtual structures for the entire life cycle
"From the phenomenon via modeling to simulation"
Main focus is the development of efficient software which can be integrated within the overall calculation procedure. Therefore fast numerical tools are available at an early development stage within a concurrent/integrated engineering concept. Special methods for the simulation based design and the life cycle modelling are developed for aero space structures, which are increasingly requested by auto motive industrial applications as well. Complementary the experimental validation of new methods is of special interest as the department provides excellent test facilities combined with log term experience.
Business activities:
- Strength analysis (3D reinforced composites, Tailored fibre placement, extended 2D methods)
- Stabilty (postbuckling, imperfection, dynamic buckling, robust design)
- Damage tolerance (Failure criterion, impact, residual strength, degradation, double shell concept)
- Thermal analysis (extended 2D methods, models for fibre metal laminates as GLARE, satelite reflectors, radiation exchange)
- Measuring and testing devices for phenomenological, validation and qualification experiments
With respect to the minimisation of costs of more complex material and structural concepts and systems, the development of virtual testing methods is enforced. Virtual and physical testing is offered to our customers on an optional basis.
