Nanoscaled additives (particle size of 1-100 nm) are able to improve strength, stiffness, and impact resistance of fibre reinforced composites. Nanoparticles are able to reduce shrinkage.
Initial composites doped with nanoscaled silica particles have been produced by the SLI technology. They showed a significant improvement of the Youngs modulus (+64%), the tensile strength (+25%), and the impact resistance (+90%).
