Engineering

Aeronautical Engineers and Mechanics assist the scientists in installing new instruments on the DLR research aircraft. Computer workplaces with CAD- and FEM- capability as well as a workshop are available to design and machine the necessary interfaces and prepare the certification.

Design

  • user consulting
  • concept of instrument installation
  • design of interfaces using CAD- and FEM- methods
  • stress analysis
  • further development and modification of the aircraft
  • aircraft standard rack design

Documentation

  • preparation of instrument certification together with the scientists
  • 10-50 certifications (supplement type approval) per year
  • documentation of instrument configurations
  • weight and balance

Workshop

  • machining of custom interfaces
  • installation of instruments on the aircraft
  • modification of the aircraft
