29 June 2011: Dedication of the Dynamic Component Testing Facility
Component tests for the safe car of tomorrow A car consists on average of 12000 individual parts. The doors, the roof, and the sides or front end are among the supporting components. These elements in particular interested Michael Kriescher. Kriescher is a mechanical engineer at the DLR's Institute of Vehicle Concepts in Stuttgart. Under his leadership over the past one and one-half years, a new facility was designed and built able to dynamically test—i.e. crash—a vehicle's various components and assemblies. These experiments are essential for validating and optimising calculation methodologies and results of individual structures. The facility was officially dedicated and thereby opened on 29 June 2011.
