Air Transportation

The departments` work focuses on modelling and analysing the air transportation at airports. In addition to the operation and progress of fast time simulations for air traffic sequences the department is developing new methods for system-modelling and -analyses.

Controller Assistance

The key activity of the department is the design of the future air- and ground traffic management on congested airports. Especially, algorithms and operations for control, planning and guidance of arriving, departing and ground traffic are developed.

Pilot Assistance

The department of pilot assistance is conducting research on methods for the cognitive automatization of on-board flight guidance functions in the scope of an integral support to aircrews for flight guidance during all phases of a flight, "gate-to-gate".

ATM-Simulation

The ATM-Simulation department (Simulation for Air Traffic Management) supports the professional research and development by analysing and evaluating new concepts and technologies for air traffic management in real environments. For that, an integrated complex of onboard and ground simulators is used.

Operations Control

The goal is to enhance and improve safety and efficiency of airports by applying a holistic approach with comprehensive operations control systems. We create system-of-systems analyses, design innovative concepts, develop these into prototypes and integrate and demonstrate them at airports.

Human Factors

The Human Factors department focuses on the design of advanced human-machine interfaces for aviation operators such as pilots and air traffic controllers. Design solutions are based on principles of human-centred automation and tested in simulations as well as in field trials.
