Arrival, Ground and Departure Traffic Management

AMAN assistance tool
The forecasted growth in air transport makes it impossible to deal with this large amount of traffic without incorporating serious delays if the current methods and tools for traffic control and handling are maintained.

This area covers expertise, systems and test facilities necessary to investigate and enhance the arrival, ground, and departure traffic management processes.

It contains knowledge about all relevant operational concepts, procedures, algorithms, models and databases. As such, this area supports prototyping and testing of integrated arrival (AMAN), ground and departure (DMAN) management systems.

The activities of this area aim at the development of a set of controller assistance tools for all particular management tasks relevant to this area, especially AMAN, DMAN, SMAN, but also tools for runway configuration and assignment management. In addition, the research activities comprise the development of algorithms, methodologies and the development of knowledge concerning

  • the modelling of the operational procedures, constraints and requirements
  • the adaptation of the current operational procedures
  • the assessment of potential benefits.

The area also covers the analysis of existing operational procedures and their adaption in case of introducing controller assistance tools.
