Concept for the Quality Assessment of the Security at Airports

14 September 2009

In order to analyse and to objectively assess the security in an airport terminal, the measuring system „Level of Security“ has been developed. In the scope of this work, parameters have been identified which influence the level of security. In order to test the concept “Level of Security", as a first step an airport is modelled in a simulation environment that is based on the DLR simulation software "TOMICS". For that purpose, realistic passenger flows and various security and data-recording systems of the terminal have been modelled.
The recommended actions resulting from the evaluations have been analysed with regard to their impact on the terminal operations by a What-If-Simulation. Thus, based on passenger flow forecasts, available optimisation potentials can be identified and available resources can be used more efficiently with the same or even higher level of security.
