Efficiency Analysis for the Security Area

14 October 2009

A current survey by SITA (Societe Internationale de Telecommunication Aeronautique) confirms the increasing importance of self-service checkin. For the passengers, this represents an enhancement of comfort and flexibility regarding their arrival at the airport, because waiting times at the checkin counter are eliminated.

For airport operators, on the other hand, the question arrises what impact the different arrival behavior of passengers has on the efficiency in the security area. Within a simulated environment based on the DLR software TOMICS, the issue is being examined and the reaction of the complex system airport is being analyzed by means of determined queue lengths and waiting times in the security area.
