Air Transport as Class in the School Lab
(10. September 2009)

The DLR School Lab has been established in order to introduce students to the research topics at DLR and to raise their general interest in DLR through experiments. Furthermore, it purposefully serves the continuing education of the teachers. Here, FW is involved in teaching the class air transport, which identifies the main actors and their cooperation at airports and in the controlled airspace.

In addition, live presentations are given through webcams, flight schedules, and radar images. First, the development and regional distribution of worldwide air transport is explained. The complex system of an airport is described, as are current developments, problems, and limits of air transportation. Students are actively involved so that they can answer arising questions, e.g., concerning the assessment of capacities. Both geographic knowledge and analytic thinking are trained by means of various interactive programmes.
