SWACI Service

The „Space Weather Application Center –Ionosphere“ (SWACI) is an information and data service for user and operators of space based communication, navigation and remote sensing radio systems. Effective methods and algorithms are developed in the Institute for operational provision of near-real-time information, predictions and data describing the ionospheric state.

Mobile IPv6 Implementation for the Omnet++ INET framework

During the course of the work on IP protocols for aeronautical communications it became apparent that simulations for studying the Mobile IP protocol would become necessary. After a survey the INET framework for the OMNET++ simulator was chosen and, in cooperation with the “Lehrstuhl für Kommunikationsnetze” of the Technical University of Dortmund, it was finally extended with an implementation of the Mobile IPv6 protocol. The source code of this implementation is freely available for download.

GIOVE Tracking Monitor

Based on the CONGO network, a station network of worldwide distributed receiver locations with the capability to track GIOVE signals, the signals of the both GALILEO test satellites GIOVE-A and GIOVE-B are tracked. The GIOVE Monitor is an online tool for the presentation of the current receiving status of all stations related to the GIOVE satellites. The monitor shows which station is capable to receive GIOVE signals and what kind of signals can be decoded. Moreover the monitor is mapping the actual satellite position on the surface of the earth. The monitor update rate is 60 s.

GNSS Channel Models

Along with the development of GALILEO it became necessary to improve the knowledge about the propagation characteristics of satellite navigation signals. Power, delay and bandwidth of reflections from objects in the vicinity of a receiver were not modelled accurately enough to assess the capacity of new GNSS signal structures in different environments. Based on data from two worldwide unique measurement campaigns, a new generation of multipath channel models were developed, which are available for download.
