The device-under-test is placed on the plane table which can be moved in xy-direction by a precise mechanic. The coordinates of the current position are recorded electronically and represented on a display.
Apart from the direct visual inspection via the microscope the essential advantage in contrast to a conventional microscope lies in the fact that the optical head contains a camera. It transmits a digital picture to the PC, where it can be further processed by a versatile measuring software. Distance measurements, shape detection, overlay with CAD data and many other functions can be invoked.
The figures 1 and 2 show the microscope with the PC for data evaluation, an antenna developed in the project ATENAA and a digitally recorded picture.
