Aeronautical Satellite Communications Channel Characteristics
The wireless signal propagation characteristics from a satellite based transmitter to an airborne receiver are of special interest for air traffic management as well as for passenger communications. Especially applications incorporating safety-of-life features require not only an average reliability of the transmission link but rather a high availability and have stringent requirements on the continuity-of-service.

Advanced DVB-RCS
The Project „advanced DVB-RCS“ is aiming at the development of a testbed of an advanced DVB-RCS modem with new coding for forward error correction and with adaptive coding and modulation in the reverse channel. DLR develops and implements the resource management algorithms for DVB-RCS (MAC-Layer) and the algorithms for the encapsulation of the IP datagrams.

ADVANSYS
Design of ADvanced ANtenna and Multi-Sensor HYbrid Receiver for Machine Control in HarSh Environments. Nowadays machine control applications such as precision agriculture, construction (land and offshore), and open mining, increasingly rely on global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). In all these applications, GNSS is the preferred technology thanks to its global availability and easiness to deploy and operate.

AFFECTS
Advanced forecast for ensuring communications through space (AFFECTS). Severe space weather effects may degrade the performance of modern telecommunication and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Therefore, solar storms are able to affect our modern infrastructure facilities and installations. As a result, restricted functionality or catastrophic failure of telecommunication and navigational systems could lead to serious economic losses, safety risks or to the restriction of the quality of live.

Alert 4 All (A4A)
The Alert4All Project, coordinated by DLR, is a EU-funded collaborative project in the frame of the 3rd REA Security Call that develops an advanced concept for alert and communications towards the population in crisis situations from a European perspective.

ANTARES (AeroNauTicAl Resources Satellite based)
The ESA project ANTARES (AeroNauTicAl Resources Satellite based) is the second phase (B) of the ESA Iris programme (in the framework of ARTES 10). Within this study a new satellite communication standard for Air Traffic Management is being defined, together with the design and definition of the entire system architecture.

BaSE
The BaSE (Bavarian security receiver) project is a response of Bavarian companies to the interest arising toward the Public Regulated Service (PRS) of coming Galileo. The technological objective of BaSE project is to develop a flexible and scalable high-performance Galileo PRS prototype receiver. The receiver will feature robust acquisition and tracking of the PRS signals, an effective suppression of jamming and interference by using an adaptive antenna array with digital beamforming, a robust PVT solution (Position-Velocity-Time) with multi-frequency RAIM (Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring) as well as a spoofing detection with the help of estimated directions of arrival of the PRS signals.
