Heavy Ions in Therapy and Space Symposium 2009
July 6-10, 2009
Organized by DLR
Including:
The 5th International Workshop on Space Radiation Research (IWSRR) The 12th Workshop on Ion Beam In Biology and Medicine (IBIBAM) The 20th Annual NASA Space Radiation Health Investigators’ Workshop (SRHIW) The 1st ESA Space Radiation Investigators’ Meeting (ESRAD)
Location: IHK Cologne
Main Sponsors: NASA, ESA, IHK, GSI
The symposium is addressed to scientists interested in the effects of heavy ions in biological systems. An improved understanding of the mechanisms involved is of highest priority for interplanetary manned missions as well as for the application of heavy ions in cancer therapy. The Symposium will include invited talks, plenary talks, poster sessions with moderated discussion, plus an award for young investigators.
The symposium covers the following topics:
- Cell and tissue radiobiology
- DNA damage and repair
- Signaling and pathways in cell biology
- Late effects of heavy ions
- Individual radiosensitivity
- Bystander/abscopal effects
- Heavy ion cancerogenesis
- CNS damage
- Countermeasures
- Dosimetry in space
- Treatment planning
- Medical physics
- Clinical results-studies and status reports on treatment
- Beam production and dose delivery methods
- Quality assurance and robotics
