Cell and Molecular Biology (Gravitational Biology)
Influence of gravitation on cellular signal transduction pathways. All biological systems have developed under the constant influence of gravity. Thus, the question arises whether and how changed gravitational stimulation influences structure and function of organisms. Obviously, physiological changes already take place at the cellular level. Our aim is to characterize signal transduction chains, which are involved in graviperception. Model systems are human melanocytic cells. Variation of the gravitational stimulation is achieved by means of centrifuges. Also experiments with clinostats and space experiments will be performed.
