Participants of the SpaceLife Students' Workshop, Grainau, Germany 2013
It was an extraordinary meeting: The SpaceLife Students’ Workshop at the “Hotel Bader am See” in Grainau, near the Top of Germany (Zugspitzgipfel). SpaceLife Students from two generations had the opportunity to meet each other and to exchange their experiences. SpaceLife Doctoral Students of the second generation (2012 - 2015) were asked to introduce their thesis topics including scientific background, hypothesis, methods, and current findings and the conclusions that can be drawn from first results. SpaceLife Doctoral Students of the first generation (2009 – 2013) on the contrary presented a final report on their research project and used the opportunity to practice for their exam upcoming soon.
Some of the interesting talks took place at the “Conference Center SonnAlpin Zugspitze” - 2600 m above sea level - which only could be reached via cable railway. It was also the starting point of a guided tour to the “Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus” on Germany's highest mountain where the physical and chemical properties of the atmosphere are continuously monitored and various processes which influence the weather and climate are analyzed.
To sum up it was a really successful and fruitful workshop for all participants and we are looking forward to the next opportunity to communicate on such a high level.
