This map section shows the port area of Port-au-Prince and parts of the city centre before the earthquake on 12 January 2010. Buildings that can be seen, for example, are the presidential palace at the lower centre, surrounded by green areas, and the cathedral at the centre of the section. A hospital can be seen on the southern edge, recognisable by its Red Cross symbol. More than 40 percent of the presidential palace and the cathedral were destroyed after the disaster.
