Traffic Applications

In 1999 DLR decided to add a division devoted to the subject of transportation in order to develop a new, promising field of competence. Using the experience in aerospace and energy technologies DLR focuses on a holistic approach encompassing various modes of transportation to provide sustainable mobility.

Optical Information Systems contributes on this topic by sensorics and electronics, algorithms and software development as well as calibration.

System concepts are created, cameras in the visible and infrared range are designed, built, tested and calibrated, software for data generation, archiving and information extraction is developed and implemented for tasks being relevant for traffic applications. Special importance is attached to questions of real time data processing. SensorWeb approaches combining several sensor systems on different spaceborne, airborne and terrestrial platforms are of great interest.

Traffic relevant problems are tackled in a strong cooperation with DLR institutes. Local networks between industry and research facilities play an important role, e.g. OptecBB.
