This group has two main work tasks to perform: the definition and selection of sensors and sensor combinations for remote sensing purposes, and on the other hand the provision of data from different sensors and sensor combinations for experimental analysis. Our expertise concentrates on the mechanical and electrical integration of this technology in aircraft for measurements purposes.
Within the first task, sensors are chosen based on users’ requirements and, if necessary, targets for the developments of appropriate sensors are acquired; for example the RGB-Cameras (MultiCam): They are used to generate high-resolution 3D models, or different combinations of RGB matrix or line cameras with hyperspectral sensors, laser sensors or thermal sensors which lead to the improved interpretation of the sensor data in question.
The second task covers the acquisition of sensor data for further use by the department: Sensor Concepts and Application. Also for other users test data can be generated by owned or allocated sensors. Long-time experience in the operation of experimental aerial photograph systems and a wide range of partly self-developed devices for flying purposes enable extensive support. Scientific flights for users and manufacturers of aerial photographic technology have been carried out and verified. Part of our work also includes the provision of high-precision navigation data for direct georeferencing, the preparation and selection of sensors for calibration and the support by validation, e.g. by specific cue configurations.
