Health Research

Funding of health research is an important task of the Federal Government. And it has been also one of the main fields of activity of the PT-DLR Health Research for many years. Especially here an effective project management is very important for the scientific progress. Clients of the PT-DLR Health Research are mainly the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Federal Ministry for Health. The following activities are managed by the PT-DLR. In many cases they are networked.

Programme and project management of the "Health Research Framework Programme of the Federal Government"

Transferring scientific knowledge from the laboratory to actual administration to people is a major challenge in medicine. There are still considerable gaps in knowledge in the area covering the causes and treatment options for many illnesses. An extensive need for research therefore continues to exist. At the same time, modern technology permits us to gain insights and acquire knowledge which were still denied to us just a few years previously and therewith open up entirely new opportunities for the provision of medical care. Funding health research is therefore an important task of the Federal Government and an outstanding area of work of PT-DLR. For the fact is that successful project management in precisely this area is crucial for scientific progress to occur. The Health Research Framework Programme which was approved on 8 December 2010 focuses on the following fields of action:

Combined research into widespread diseases
Personalised medicine
Preventative and food research
Treatment research
Health care
Global cooperation into health research

Program Management for Biomedical Sciences

PT-DLR Health Research mainly operates in three biomedical research fields for the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF):

Medical Genome Research
the National Network for Computational Neuroscience
Ethics

Agency of the Health Research Council (GFR)

The Health Research Council (GFR) was set up in 1990. Representatives of the major research and funding organisations from Germany and abroad are members of the council. It gives counsel to the BMBF on strategic themes of health research and for the design of the Health Research Programme. In addition the GFR has the task of improving collaboration between federal and state governments in health research and stimulating the dialogue between representatives of research and funding organisations in health research as well as between representatives of research and health care services.

Project Management for model programmes of the Federal Ministry for Health

The organisation unit Health Research of PT-DLR is also in charge of project management for the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG). The range of tasks covers various key areas of the Federal Ministry of Health's (BMG) departmental research, such as drug and substance abuse, the safety of pharmacotherapy, quality assurance in healthcare, patient safety and the care of people with dementia. Alongside this, individual research and pilot studies are supported by the BMG as part of departmental research.
