The International Bureau at the PT-DLR supports the BMBF in its international activities, with the aim of networking research and education activities across the world.
The IB’s central responsibilities include the support and establishment of steady international cooperation in the areas of research and education. In this context, the International Bureau advises German institutions on the subject of international research cooperation and provides financial support for the development of new contacts and collaborations.
In close cooperation with the DAAD, the International Bureau is also strongly involved in the conception, coordination and planning of BMBF activities aimed at advertising Germany as a key research location. Measures and projects related to the development of the European Research Area (ERA) are becoming more and more important in the International Bureau's work.
The International Bureau also supports the BMBF in its cooperation with European and multinational organizations (such as the OECD and UNESCO).The IB gives the BMBF international support in the implementation of the Federal Government's High-Tech Strategy and the Internationalization Initiative, which was devised by the BMBF. The IB also observes and analyses international developments in research and innovation policy. In addition, it is responsible for coordinating programmes for the support of young scientists.The development and maintenance of websites and internet portals on the subject of international cooperation in research and education is another area in which the International Bureau is actively involved. Other responsibilities include the planning and realization of international events.
