European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS)



General Information

The European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) is a cooperative effort of the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies, and the European Industry Association EUROSPACE for the purpose of developing and maintaining common, commercial-oriented standards on behalf of space applications and with the objective of performance enhancement as well as competitiveness of the European Space Industry on the world market.

The members/partners within the ECSS-Standards development process are:

  • Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI)
  • Belgian Office for Scientific, Technical and Cultural Affairs (OSTC)
  • British National Space Centre (BNSC)
  • Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES)
  • Canadian Space Agency (CSA)
  • Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR)
  • European Space Agency (ESA)
  • Norwegian Space Agency
  • European Industry through Eurospace

The architecture of the standards has 3 domains:

  • Product Management
  • Engineering
  • Product Assurance.
