DLR accepts its social responsibility and has committed itself to comply with laws, standards and official requirements in its guidelines. DLR applies a wide range of standards as well as nationally and internationally recognized legislation, including on topics such as occupational safety, environmental protection, quality management and product assurance. We comply with current national and European directives and laws in the design, assembly and operation of our research facilities and research products and supplement these with internal standards if necessary.
Depending on the client, the topic and the research focus (aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security or digitalization), different requirements in the form of legislation, norms and standards have to be implemented in the project. Multinational projects also consider international requirements, such as ISO, ECSS, MIL, etc. Due to the diversity of compliance requirements, product assurance is therefore decentralized at DLR and is the responsibility of the institutes and facilities.
The Coordination Product Assurance advises project managers and employees, executives and management representatives of the institutes and facilities on their work. This enables researchers to design and carry out their experiments, tests and research products with a defined quality.
