Review of a successful CVA presidency in 2016
On January 14, 2017 the municipality of Hardthausen held their new year’s reception following a successful CVA presidency in 2016. The Forum Ariane Lampoldshausen also organized several events in the frame of the Community of Ariane Cities (CVA) to support the European networking in technology transfer, space awareness in teaching as well as intercultural student exchanges.
Four in one go - Ariane brings Galileo satellites into their orbits for the first time
Antonianna, Lisa, Kimberley and Tijmen – those are the names of the four Galileo satellites launched on 17 November 2016, at precisely 14:06 CET, for the first time with a specially adapted version of the European heavyweight carrier Ariane 5 from the European spaceport in French Guiana. Until now, a Soyuz rocket had brought the more than 700-kilogram navigation satellites to their orbits at an altitude of 23,222 kilometres – two at a time.
New rocket test rig for safe Ariane 6 launches
The future European launcher Ariane 6 will debut in 2020. In order for it to bring all its payloads safely to their orbits, the engines for the new launcher must first be extensively tested. To test the upper stage of the new launcher, a new test rig will be built at the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) site in Lampoldshausen.
Research on 'green' rocket propellants – symposium with experts from science and industry at DLR in Lampoldshausen
The researchers at the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) Lampoldshausen site can look back on over 50 years of applied research at the M11 test facility. DLR's M11 test complex was built in the 1960s, and since then has been available for research and development in the area of rocket and ramjet engines.
Third STERN campaign – New altitude record for student rockets
At 10:30 Central European Time (CET) on 8 November 2016, the HEROS3 (Hybrid Experimental Rocket Stuttgart) research rocket was successfully launched from the Esrange Space Centre in Sweden to great enthusiasm from the students. Reaching an altitude of 30 kilometres, it set a new European altitude record for student rockets.

4. Hydrogen Day Well-established encounter of the industry at DLR Lampoldshausen

DLR Lampoldshausen signs co-operative agreement with Heilbronn University
The German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Lampoldshausen is expanding its network in youth development, with Prof. Stefan Schlechtriem, Director of the DLR Institute of Space Propulsion, and Prof. Wolfgang Ernst, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Economics at the Campus Künzelsau – Reinhold-Würth-Hochschule at Heilbronn University, signing a joint statement on this matter on 2 February 2016. Shared projects focus on research issues, particularly relating to instrumentation and control, while discussions between young academics and application-oriented researchers seek to generate new ideas from both sides.
