DLR Space Operations is the central institution for spaceflight operations in Germany. This responsibility includes satellite missions for Earth observation, communication and reconaissance missions as well as for the exploration of the solar system and human spaceflight missions. Furthermore, Astronauts are trained, space experiments are prepared and sounding rockets are developed and launched from sites around the world. Eventually, DLR works on new technologies, such as on-orbit-servicing in order to master even the most difficult space projects of the future.

In close cooperation with other DLR institutions and together with public and industrial partners, DLR Space Operations plays a major role for spaceflight in Europe. Here, groundbreaking space projects are realised and new ideas for spaceflight of tomorrow are developed. As a versatile interface between technology, operations and utilisation, DLR Space Operations serves as an important venue for everyone involved in spaceflight and the general public.

Auf der Erde ist so etwas alltäglich, im Weltall kann daraus allerdings ein spannendes Experiment in der Schwerelosigkeit werden. Der Experimentator steht schon fest: Der deutsche ESA-Astronaut Alexander Gerst wird im Mai 2014 zur Internationalen Raumstation ISS fliegen und mit vielen Experimenten schwebend forschen. 06.06.2013 - Successful premiere – STEREX video shows ATV-4 in orbit A special passenger was on board during the launch of ESA's fourth Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), 'Albert Einstein', on 5 June 2013 at 23:52 CEST – the STEREX experiment, funded by the DLR Space Administration and the European Space Agency (ESA). The heart of this system consists of four cameras incorporated into the Ariane 5. Two of these cameras recorded the separation of ATV-4 for the first time in 3D. 06.06.2013 - ATV: "Albert Einstein" ist auf dem Weg zur ISS Acht Tage nach dem Start der "Volare-Mission" mit dem ESA-Astronauten Luca Parmitano hat die europäische Weltraumagentur ihr viertes ATV-Versorgungsraumschiff auf den Weg zur Internationalen Raumstation gebracht. Deutschland baut die Raumtransporter und hat zudem ein 3D-Kamerasystem konstruiert, das erstmals seit 2006 den Start einer Ariane 5 und die Separation des ATV von Bord der Rakete aus dokumentieren soll. 04.06.2013 - Satellitenbilder von Flutgebieten in Deutschland Das Kartenmaterial des Zentrums für Satellitengestützte Kriseninformation (ZKI) des DLR zeigt das Ausmaß der Flutkatastrophe deutlich: In Passau stehen ganze Stadtviertel am Zusammenfluss von Inn und Donau unter Wasser, im Gebiet um Elxleben nördlich von Erfurt sind ganze Flächen überflutet. Die Informationen, die die Einsatzkräfte in den deutschen Hochwassergebieten unterstützen, erhält das ZKI aus aktuellen Aufnahmen des deutschen Radarsatelliten TerraSAR-X. Read more
