The LISA Pathfinder Technology Package (LTP) will test key technologies for the gravitational wave observatory eLISA in space.

The LTP contains two vacuum enclosures separated by about 40 centimeters, each of which houses a cubic test mass. These test masses will be released during the operation of LISA Pathfinder in a controlled way, and the their deviations from the (nearly) force-free levitation measured with the highest precision by means of an interferometer (located between the vacuum enclosures).
