During the exhibition, research aircraft from the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) fleet are on the static display outside Hall 9, including the Falcon atmospheric research aircraft. Starting on 19 April 2010, the Falcon flew 18 missions in European airspace to observe the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjalla. The Falcon flies these missions on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development (Bundesministerium für Verkehr, Bau und Stadtentwicklung; BMVBS) and the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst; DWD).
