TerraSAR-X has been mapping inundated areas during floods since 2007. This image shows the towns of Gloucester (bottom) and Cheltenham (centre right) during the flood on 25 July 2007. The areas flooded by the River Severn can be seen clearly. The DLR Center for Satellite Based Crisis Information (Zentrum für Satellitengestützte Kriseninformation; ZKI) in Oberpfaffenhofen – a service of the German Remote Sensing Data Center (Deutsches Fernerkundungsdatenzentrum; DFD) – supplied maps derived from the most up-to-date data from the TerraSAR-X satellite to support relief units deployed on the ground during the flood.
