Die Satellitennavigation ermöglicht eine hochpräzise Ortsbestimmung. Sie ist die Voraussetzung für innovative Anwendungen etwa im Verkehrswesen, in der Landvermessung und in der Landwirtschaft. Viele davon besitzen ein hohes wirtschaftliches Potenzial. Im Mittelpunkt steht derzeit der Aufbau des autonomen europäischen Navigationssystems Galileo.
