eROSITA will be taken into orbit from the Russian Baikonur cosmodrome on board the Russian Spektrum Roentgen Gamma (SRG) satellite. The launch is planned for 2012.
On 18 August 2009, executive board members of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and the Russian space agency Roskosmos signed a detailed agreement setting out all the organisational and technical boundary conditions for the eROSITA project.
