Mit dem "German Trainee Programme" bietet das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt jungen raumfahrtbegeisterten Menschen in Deutschland die Chance, an aktuellen Raumfahrtprojekten der ESA mitzuarbeiten.
ISS: Flugmanöver für die Sonne

Möglichst viele Sonnenstrahlen einzufangen und zu analysieren - das ist die Aufgabe von SOLAR an der Außenseite der Internationalen Raumstation ISS. Dafür ist das Instrument mit zwei beweglichen Aufhängungen versehen, die die punktgenaue Verfolgung der Sonne von der ISS aus ermöglichen.

To the naked eye there is nothing to see, and yet the small transparent container holds something never observed before. For the first time, scientists are studying asteroid dust collected by the Japanese spacecraft Hayabusa and returned to Earth.
MAPHEUS-3: Flight-testing furnaces in microgravity

On 25 November 2012 the high-altitude sounding rocket MAPHEUS-3 was launched from the Swedish Esrange Space Center in Kiruna. It carried four experiments that were subjected to three and a half minutes of microgravity conditions during the flight.
Germany consolidates its position in European space

On 20 and 21 November 2012, delegates from the 20 member states of the European Space Agency (ESA) and Canada met at the 'Mostra d’Oltremare' conference centre in Naples, Italy. The start of the ESA presidency of Switzerland and Luxembourg was characterised by intensive and success-oriented negotiations.

Das Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) fördert ein Erdbeobachtungsinstrument, das die Wettervorhersage noch genauer machen soll: METimage heißt das multispektrale Radiometer, mit dessen Entwicklung das DLR Raumfahrtmanagement die Jena-Optronik GmbH beauftragt hat.
Two more satellites for the Galileo system

The first two satellites for the European Galileo navigation system have been orbiting Earth since 21 October 2011. Now, two more are about to follow; on 12 October 2012 at 20:15 CEST, a Soyuz rocket will launch them into their position in space.

MASCOT - an asteroid lander with a sense of direction

When the Japanese Hayabusa-2 mission is launched towards asteroid 1999 JU 3 in 2014 to collect surface samples, MASCOT - the Mobile Asteroid Surface Scout - an asteroid lander developed by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) will be on board.

Then, the 900-kilogram capsule enclosing the Curiosity rover will begin decelerating 125 kilometres above the Martian surface before being lowered on cables by a rocket-powered 'sky crane'.

After a year in service, the German Earth observation satellite TanDEM-X, together with its twin satellite, TerraSAR-X, have completely mapped the entire land surface of Earth for the first time. The data is being used to create the world's first single-source, high-precision, 3D digital elevation model of Earth. The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) controls both radar satellites, generates the elevation model and is responsible for the scientific use of TanDEM-X data.
Mars Express: 'Wrinkle ridges' and grabens in Tempe Terra

Tempe Terra is located at the northeastern edge of the Tharsis volcanic region and forms the transition zone between the southern highlands and the northern lowlands. This area is characterised by a large variety of tectonic structures and is one of the most geologically diverse on Mars. These images from the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), operated by the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) on board ESA's Mars Express spacecraft, which were acquired on 17 July 2011, show a large number of interesting geological phenomena.
