Visit from the Bionicum Visitors’ Center

Two museum educators from the Bionicum Visitors’ Center in Nuremberg visited the Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics on February 6 to learn about bionics and its influence on robotics.

Thomas Rode and Alexandra Lang were given initial insights into the work of the institute and a comprehensive demonstration of the humanoid walking robot TORO by DLR staff member Johannes Englsberger. A subsequent conversation focused on a comparison between a human and a robotic hand. DLR staff member Werner Friedl, who is responsible for the development of the various hand types at the institute, illustrated the development of hand models by means of diagrams and prototypes.
