Stereo Camera System

The 3D-Modeller is equipped with a stereo camera system adding new and exciting capabilities:

  1. Stereo depth sensor
  2. Light stripe depth sensor*
  3. Texture-mapping

(*) in combination with a laser-line generator

Here, the stereo depth map generation is outlined, whereas a first look is given on the hardware setup and the necessary preprocessing steps.

Hardware Setup

The camera system consists of two analog PAL interlaced cameras with remote, light weight head. These remote heads are mounted with slightly convergent view axis in distance of approx. 10cm toward each other. The camera horizontal angle is approx 56 degree.

The stereo cameras are synchronized externally and the capture process on the host computer grabs the images synchronously with the TCP-position information.
