UAS for Forestry and Farming

Research activities for UAV applications in forestry:

Spontaneous, contemporary and extense data aquisition to monitor early bark beatle attack stages (green attack stage) in „european spruce“ - forest stands using multispectral data payload on different UAVs.

Photogrammetric (geometrical) and spectral monitoring of windbreakage areas using digital cameras and narrowband multispectral remote sensing payload from different UAVs

Sampling of small needle twigs from european spruce crowns using an UAV helicopter with a combined holding-, cutting- and collecting device.

Research activities for UAV applications in agriculture and precision farming:

Spontaneous, contemporary and extense data aquisition to assess vegetation indices like normalized differenced vegetation index (NDVI) using narrowband multispectral remote sensing payload on different UAVs to deduce precise agricultural application maps for common precision farming GIS and board computer systems.

Example of forestry applications using UAVs

Windbreakage area in the national park „Bayerischer Wald“ as CIR aerial photo with canopy segmentation mask (top) and as vegetation index image (NDVI) (down) to show the condition of the left over tree crowns (REIDELSTUERZ P.)

Example of precision farming applications using UAVs

Calculated vegetation index (VARI) for precise and effective precision farming applications of fungicide, using practicable, cost-efficient and contemporary applicable UAVs with remote sensing payload (SCHRENK L.; REIDELSTUERZ P.)
