The Intelligent and Distributed Systems department conducts research in the areas of distributed and decentralized software systems, intelligent and knowledge-based software systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and software engineering and software analytics. In these research and application areas, the department works across groups to make complex processes fully traceable, reproducible, and automatable, and to make complex systems tangible, understandable, and easy to use.
In particular, we focus on designing and maintaining complex software and system architectures and improving their usability. Abstract graph-based data play a role in many applications (e.g., software dependencies, provenance graphs, or simulation networks), for which the department develops innovative approaches to analysis and visualization, for example in virtual and augmented reality.
