Distributed Systems and Component Software

The Distributed Systems and Component Software department focuses on Grid Computing and on component-based software development for distributed systems. The tasks include the development of modern software tools engineering applications and software integration systems based on service oriented architecture as well as consulting and development in the field of automation and practical use of software engineering processes.

Current Topics in Research and Development

Grid Computing

  • Development of Grid-enabled applications
  • Grid security (secure access to Grid resources through firewalls)
  • Trust and traceability of distributed processes (process provenance)

Software integration technology

  • Development of the software integration systems TENT und RCE
  • Wrapping of arbitrary application into software integration systems
  • Uniform data interfaces for DLR codes and integration of different engineering discipline
  • Development of modern software environments for virtual product development
  • Object oriented interface for numerical applications

Management of scientific data and information management

  • Data management software DataFinder
  • Best-practices-tools / expert systems for computational fluid dynamics
  • Origin and dependability of data (data provenance)

Graphical user interfaces

  • Development of user interfaces for engineering applications
  • Test tools for verification of numerical software

Software Engineering

  • Automation of software engineering processes
  • Code generation for automated tests
  • Customizing of software engineering processes and tools
  • Development of software engineering tools (e.g., for code review, code analysis, or refactoring)
