AERONET

The AERONET network was born from the initiative of the European "Esprit" Programme. The initiative was launched with the aim to transfer High Performance Computing Networking (HPCN) technologies into European Industry via the establishment of specialized Technology Transfer Nodes (TTNs) across Europe. As such, AERONET stood for intelligent networking with the primary intention to improve the performance of small or medium sized enterprises (SME). AERONET simplified the access to low cost HPCN technologies, thus enabling SMEs to shorten their development cycles, reduce costs and improve quality, meeting customer's requirements at an early stage.

DLR Simulation and Software Technology as one of the TTNs was leading AERONET together with another TTN, managed by CERFACS, a French research institution. Eight TTNs were participating in AERONET, providing expertise in a wide range of technical areas, such as:

  • Distributed Working
  • Computer Supported Collaborative Working
  • Direct Coupling to ongoing Simulations
  • Parallelisation of Codes
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Aeroelastics
  • Structural Dynamics
  • Grid Generation
  • Multi-Body Simulation
  • Electromagnetic Compatibilit

The AERONET network was active from April 1997 to April 2000.
