Project description
The DLR project SikMa (Simulation of Complex Manoeuvre) was under the direction of the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology (AS). The objective was to develop an interactive simulation environment for the simulation of a freely flying, fully configured, elastic warplane. To implement the simulation, the aerodynamic, flight mechanical and aeroelastic equation systems was calculated at every step, for a time-accurate coupling of aerodynamics, flight mechanics and aeroelasticity.
In addition, the results from the SikMa project drove the idea of TENT , a uniform simulation environment for the DLR, and made a substantial contribution to the DLR core area of the virtual aircraft. Along with the development of the interactive integration environment and the computing processes and coupling algorithms, the SikMa project tested wind-tunnel with different models in different manoeuvre scenarios, in order to obtain a comprehensive data set for the verification and validation of the overall simulation environment.

Collaborations
SikMa was an interdisciplinary project involving the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology (AS), the Institute of Aeroelasticity (AE), the Institute of Flight System Technology (FT), and Simulation and Software Technology , as well as the non-DLR partner EADS-M.
DLR Simulation and Software Technology tasks
DLR Simulation and Software Technology was handling:
- Provision and maintenance of the integration system TENT
- Development, test and integration of the TENT components (wrappers) for the software modules of the participating Institutes
- Development of a browser (SimBrowser) with graphic user interface for the simulation server and coupling manager software components to be developed or further developed in the project
- Integration and test of the process chains created from the components
