MAPLIB is part of the superordinate project VicToria, whose overall aim is to provide a holistic approach to the virtual design, simulation, optimization and assessment of aircrafts. In particular, MAPLIB is a software library that touches the first three of these categories. Its primary objective is to facilitate the simulation by adopting the simulational mesh to changes in the geometry, thus relieving the simulation from a costly remeshing step.
The secondary objective is to support the overall gradient-based optimization of aircrafts. This is achieved by providing gradients of the mesh changes with respect to the design parameters. Key challenges of our work are the correct handling of so-called trimmed NURBS surfaces, which compose the aircraft's geometry.
