The goal of this integration was to add the Grid-functionalities of the Globus Toolkit to the existing TENT solutions for resource selection, application starting and data transfer, and in some cases to replace them entirely. A major advantage of this integration is that it allows TENT to use the security mechanisms in Globus. Globus integration turns TENT into a grid computing environment, i.e. an application that gives users access to the resources of computational grids for their daily work.
Globus Toolkit features were added to TENT in these areas:
TENT data management can manage workflow and component configurations, as well as input and output files, in the form of freely definable project hierarchies. Metadata can be added to the managed data. The metadata classifies the data and adds the information necessary for its specific environment. Search operations can use the metadata to find data generated in a certain time period, by a certain user, on a certain platform, or with certain input parameters.
AMANDA (A Multidisciplinary High Performance Numerical Development System for Aircraft) war ein Projekt des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) und des Forschungszentrums für Informationstechnik (GMD), das zum Ziel hatte, multidisziplinäre Simulationen von Flugzeugen und Triebwerken in einem integrierten Softwaresystem durchzuführen.
