How does a paramecium know what's up and what's down?
Of course, most living things know where up is and where down is, otherwise they could not find their way around their world. This ability helps them to find food and to avoid dangerous places. But is that true for single celled organisms as well? Do even paramecia respond to earth's gravitational field?
