"Here you really get involved."

A report by Caroline Becker, corporate communications school trainee at DLR Köln

"Super!" and "Wow!" some of the students exclaim as they enter DLR_School_Lab Köln. The large centrifuge hall is completely dark except for the light coming from the computer and the beamer. A few little lamps blink on and off at the equipment and experiments while background music softly accompanies the images on the screen.

All-day classes visit DLR

A report about the annual visit of the all-day classes at Martin-Butzer-Gymnasium Dierdorf

As part of the cooperation between this school and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the all-day classes go on an excursion once a year to DLR_School_Lab. During their visit the students carry out a number of exciting experiments. For example, they use a small drop tower to investigate how a candle flame behaves in the absence of gravity, and find out what happens to an air bubble in a weightless environment.

Parabolic Flight 2007

Dirk Schalaster of Martin Butzer Gymnasium Dierdorf reports about a parabolic flight in 2007

I could hardly believe it when we heard beginning of 2007 that we might have the chance to send a student along on a parabolic flight. At the time I worked there it was my greatest dream to participate in such a flight. When the written invitation arrived, the teaching staff quickly agreed that we had to participate as a school, because we would not likely have such a chance again.

The 10th grade class at Bertha von Suttner Gesamtschule Dormagen visits in November 2006

Are comets just dirty snowballs with tails? How do you purify water with light? How does water get into a glass in the absence of gravity? Where astronauts once trained for their flights, the DLR_School_Lab in Köln today stimulates a spirit of research with the help of many exciting experiments.
