Solarbibliothek / Solar Model Library

Description:

 Solar Model Library
zum Bild Solar Model Library
During the last years DLR has developed a number of in-houses simulation tools for solar thermal power plants. The focus has been on detailed simulation of solar fields, especially for parabolic trough and Linear Fresnel collector systems. Besides solar field design the codes are also used to perform electricity yield calculations on annual basis. Driven by the boom in solar thermal power plants, more and more requests from industry for simulation tools have been registered at DLR in the last years. Having research as a mission DLR is not intending to offer such simulation tools on a commercial basis.

The decision was taken to co-operate with Evonik Energy Services in the development of a solar library for Evonik’s commercial simulation tool EBSILON®Professional. While DLR acts as a technological partner, Evonik Energy Services is responsible for sales, distribution and support of the tool. DLR itself is going to substitute most of its in-house codes by this new tool.

The new library EbsSolar can be used to perform steady-state simulations of parabolic trough and Linear Fresnel collector fields together with the power block and all relevant sub-components. The structure of the library will allow performing detailed simulation of the field based on individual solar collectors. For yearly analysis a collector field model is available that can easily be parameterized without knowledge of the exact field layout. A special storage element will open the way to simulate systems with thermal storage within the same simulation environment. A sufficient number of model parameters guarantees that the user can adapt the simulation model to his specific needs.

The tool will be available in the next EBSILON®Professional Release which is announced for end of 2009. The tool is presented at the SolarPACES 2009 conference in Berlin.
