Project structure of DISTOR

DISTOR has been started in February 2004 and will last until September 2007. The project can be separated into three different phases:

  • Basics:
characterization of the storage materials, identification of the requirements defined by the power plant, physcial models describing the transient behaviour of the storage system
  • Lab scale experiments for all three concepts:
Test units with a thermal power of 10kW are developed for all three basic concepts. The experimental results are used for the validation of the physical models.
  • On sun experiments at the solar test center at Almeria:
One of the basic concept is selcted for further experiments with a 100kW test unit. This test unit is connected to solar collectors to investigate the operation with solar boundary conditions.
