DLR intensifies cooperation with Hydrogenics GmbH

German Aerospace Center (DLR) is intensifying its cooperation with Gladbeck based Hydrogenics GmbH, a leading manufacturer of fuel cell systems.

Antares, the world's first manned fuel cell powered aircraft, will be equipped with an advanced fuel cell system from Hydrogenics GmbH. The high power at low pressure ability of the fuel cell will undergo testing.

The fuel cell system operates with an efficiency of up to 52%, providing maximum continuous power of 30 kW electric. The Hydrogenics fuel cell system provides a 30% gravimetric power density improvement as compared to other systems tested by DLR. The compact design of the fuel cell system requires only minor modifications to be made to the Antares plane allowing the aircraft to maintain its flying strengths.

About Hydrogenics
