The research area Analytics and Methodology is working on the application and further development of in situ- and ex situ-characterization methods for electrochemical energy converters (polymer electrolyte fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cells, electrolysis) with the objective to better understand the reaction processes taking place inside electrochemical cells and to develop innovative solutions and approaches for the analyzed problemes. Materials characterization and materials development, e.g. of catalysts, high temperature materials and functional layers for electrochemical devices as well as the elucidation of degradation mechanisms in fuel cells are a special expertise of the working group.
