Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen honoured with Donald Q. Kern Award
On the Annual Meeting of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) in Nashville, TN, USA the Donald Q. Kern Award for the year 2008 was presented to Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen on November 10th, 2009, honouring his lifelong, international devotion to heat transfer and energy conversion. The Donald Q. Kern Award aims to recognize an individual´s expertise in a given field of heat transfer and energy conversion and his significant contributions to applied heat transfer.
In her laudation Dr. Claudette Beyer, president of Heat Transfer Research Inc., stated as a reason for the decision that Professor Müller-Steinhagen has made outstanding scientific and applied contributions to process heat transfer. A special appraisal should be given to the significance of his practical heat transfer engineering right next to the more than 500 publications on the areas of heat exchanger fouling and multiphase transfer. Numerous projects have been realized together with industry partners and provide a basis for applied methods. His international engagement as chairman for organisations and conferences on Heat Transfer Fouling as well as his activities as a consultant for various research organisations and an associated editor of international journals provided the bases for the decision-making.
