Research Fields

The strengths of the Institute of Transport Research lie in combining empirical and analytical expertise with competence in the field of microscopic modeling. This specific know-how is applied to questions posed across all areas of research into passenger and commercial transport.

The research team consists of scientists from different fields of expertise working together in interdisciplinary collaboration. There are engineers, economists, computer scientists, mathematicians, as well as geographers and sociologists.

The following areas form the core focus of their work:

  • Examination of causes, framework conditions and drivers of transport demand
  • Examination of means for influencing transport demand and mobility behavior
  • Examination of the effects of transport, especially on society and the environment

The Institute of Transport Research also maintains partnerships with other national and international research facilities as well as to leading associations and organisations like the European Conference of Transport Research Institutes (ECTRI), which is a merger of various large European research facilities.
